Naihanchi seminar applications

Here are the first four templates from my recent seminar. As Iain has commented previously about seminar footage whilst the clips are solid in themselves they don't illustrate the underlying approach I take which brings the whole form together to create a formless system based on Naihanchi.

Thanks for sharing Mark. Looks like it was a fun day.

I guess this was filmed on a phone … by a fan of Star Wars?

Either way at 3:24 of the third application it seems a certain Jedi master approves of your exploration of the “dark side” of kata :-)

Thanks once again for posting.

All the best,

Iain

Lol. You're absolutely right Iain. It was my phone, and will serve as a lesson to remember to put the phone on silent next time, but as you suggest, it does seem somehow appropriate :-)

Very clear and practical, and quite helpful. Thanks so much. I'll be referring to these as I teach my new intermediate students the three Naihanchi katas in our system.

Best,

David

Hi David I'm glad you will be able to make use of the templates. They are practical, and relatively speaking very simple. They are designed to remove doubt and application overload. They are "usable" applications, rather than demonstration applications, there is a difference in my opinion. I teach other kata and their application templates, both to my students and at seminars, but Naihanchi (and the 16 drills I've shared on this forum) is MY fighting system for close quarter self defence, the one I rely on under pressure and in dire need. I hope you enjoy working with them, all sixteen are also available on my YouTube channel. Regards Mark
