Marcus Aurelius Antoninus

I recommend the Meditations of Marcus Aurelius Antoninus, Emperor of Rome 161ad.

Initially I found this a bit hard going but there are some real gems, such as:

"Nothing has such power to broaden the mind as the ability to investigate systematically and truly all that comes under thy observation in life."

Very relevant to today as it was then.
