Gedan-Barai Limb Control, Drills, and Follow-Ups

Hello, everyone,

This week, instead of our normal pre-recorded and edited Waza Wednesday video, we broadcast over Facebook Live for the first time--it was a pretty fun experience, actually, and I'm sure we will be doing it again sometime! In any case, I did take the footage from the broadcast and edit it into a proper Waza Wednesday video for uploading to YouTube, albeit a much longer one than normal because I included some of our expansions and answering of questions.

The base method of this technique is gedan-barai (or gedan-uke, depending on your terminology), and how to use it against a haymaker to block and redirect it, gain control of the opponent, and follow up with other methods from there. We are also going to be doing a webinar on other limb control methods in mid-March, so be on the lookout for that!

Great idea! Thanks for editing the live broadcast together and sharing it here. There’s a load of good stuff in there.

All the best,

Iain

Great vid!!

I use a similar application for the opening sequence of Rohai. I consider the kimai with both hands on the hip as having pulled the person to the ground backwards or pulling them in and the next set of steps as knee strikes to the back, driving them forward and then pushing them to the ground. Good stuff!!

Thanks, everyone! It was a fun, different thing to do, with the live broadcast--we've done live webinars over Skype, before, but this was the first time we've ever done a Waza Wednesday over Facebook Live. I'm glad you found the material useful, as well!
