Sai Training

Hello,

I've just brought a pair of Sai as our club are thinking of teaching sai and tonfa.  Does anyone know of anywhere near to Birmingham that teaches weaponry so that I can study these in more detail??  or of any good training aids?  i have had a look on you tube but am very reluctant to just try and copy what's on there.  I would definately prefer in depth tuition.

Any suggestions are welcome.

I would contact Julian Mead Sensei of the Ryukyu Kobujutsu Association GB, im pretty sure one of his Seniors is in that area - and IMO you won't find better Kobudo in the UK.

I'll echo that. I've trained with Julian Mead a few times, and he is an a great teacher, with a lot of good people under him. I would have loved to train more, but time/distance/life....

If memory serves, his syllabus starts with bo, and then progresses. I've trained mostly with bo, and would encourage you to look at that first. Plus, it's cheaper for everyone to get bo than it is for everyone to get sai.

And be prepared if you show him your sai. I showed him my "highly quality" ones and his response was "krappu desu"

Hi,

I'll take note of the sai thing.  To be honest though I only got a cheap set anyway as I wasn't sure how often they would be used, but thanks for the warning anyway.
