Karate in Paris?

Hi everyone, In the knowledge that you are a particularly friendly bunch that come well recommended by Iain, I thought I would post a quick message to see if anyone can help. Effectively, I have just moved to Paris for the year (I am studying abroad for the third year of my degree), and am on the hunt for somewhere to train. If anyone knows of anyone/anywhere that they can recommend, it would be much appreciated, Alex

I've posted this request via facebook to all based in France. There maybe someone on there who can also help.

All the best,

Iain

Stephane Meder: He contacts me by personal message on facebook, because i need some more information on what sort of club he would like to find?

Myriam Cordaro: I can recomend him, Jacques Tapol's club, named "Kikentai". http://www.kikentai.eu/ He has been world champion, he is 7th dan. But most of all, it's a pleasure to attend to his courses or seminars. He is open minded, humoristic and likes physical effort. Have a look to his site! www.kikentai.eu

Stephane Meder: Jacques is great, but it depends what sort of karate he wants to practice ( self defense, competition kata or kumite, leisure), where will he live in Paris?

Hi Iain, Thank you enormously for your help! In terms of location, I am in 75003 (so bang in the centre), but I am of course ready to travel further afield. In terms of what kind of club I am looking for, I am really, really hoping to avoid "leisure"/sport/competition type karate in favour of something more practical/bunkai focussed etc. Style (in the uechi/goju/shito/shoto etc. sense) I am entirely flexible with though. Thank you massively once again, Alex

In Paris I would highly recommend training with Ryozo Tsukada sensei (8th dan) who now teaches bunkai focussed Shito Ryu and has been teaching there since he arrived to assist Nanbu sensei teach Sankukai in 1972. Here is a link to his website:

By coincidence he will be teaching his annual course for the British Sankukai Karate Association in Kidderminster and also at Redditch Shotokan later this month. Details of this can be found on the BSKA website here:

Hoping this helps,
