Thoughts on Kali

Hello all, I am a shotokan karate-ka and as we all know karate is an unarmed art. I have recently thought of broadening my skills in weapon use. There is an instructor near me that teaches kali. I've read a little about the art, but thought I would get on here to see if anyone has any experience in it just to get some more thoughts and how I might be able to use it to complement my shotokan... if that's possible. Thanks you in advance.

I've dabbled in Eskrima, Arnis and Kali. Love the Filipino martial arts. I find them highly complimentary of Karate. You'll see "Karate bunkai" in Kali. The drilling method translates in other arts. And the way that both hands are used in Kali is entirely congruent with pragmatic Karate (husband and wife hands.)

In the 80s and 90s did some training under Bob Breen, the training included Kali. I have never done Shotokan so cant comment re whether it can complement Shotokan. However I really enjoyed it, the flow, timing and footwork ( which you mght initally have a difficulty with if my observations of Shotokan are correct but dont worry about it). Strange as this might seem I always found it quiet relaxing  working the mind  and body in  a different way, especially the flow drills.
