Hi All,
Here is a link to an article called “The Bunkai Blueprint: A Simple Framework for Applying the Kata of Karate in Practical Self-Defense” from the Karate by Jesse website:
http://www.karatebyjesse.com/bunkai-blueprint-kata-framework/
Obviously, we all have our own individual takes on how kata should be analysed, and how bunkai should be trained and applied. I therefore know that it’s unlikely everyone here will agree with all the nuances of the approach outlined (because we rarely agree on the nuances of anything :-). Nevertheless, I think it’s an interesting, well structured article which clearly identifies many of the key considerations.
And besides you have to love any article which contains the following quote:
“Kata is a time-tested, pre-packaged toolbox of kick-ass lessons – delivered through a bad-ass template of physical awesomeness – designed to save your ass on the street”
I know you’ll like the article so grab a cup of coffee and enjoy!
All the best,
Iain
thanks im going to have to print that one out latter, at least now i know what hapv is,
I know I enjoyed Jesse's article when it came up in my feed, and his approach does seem to be a logical one. He mentioned that he was considering fleshing out his diagram if this article got a lot of attention, so we may see a follow-up from him in the next few months.
