Nijushiho opening sequence

Hi all,

Here's a short video showing my thoughts on the opening sequence of Nijushiho.

Cheers

Hi Brian,

thanks for sharing your bunkai idea. That's a neat application.

You didn't include the right hand straight punch after pulling down the head (as in the kata). It could assist the pulling down of the head if the opponent would show resistance. Of course, if the head can be pulled down easily there is no need for the punch.

What kind of dummy do you use? Is that Bob's younger brother?

All the best

Hi Marc,

Thanks for watching :)

I see the punch can be used in two ways in this application. Firstly if you've used your opponents lapel to assist in pulling thier head down  it can be used to loosen up the gi or jacket to give enough jacket to loop the left hand over the head for the choke (I think I mentioned this in the video). Or it can simply be used as a punch to the face if the choke is failing. Hope that makes sense :) I'll have to film it again when we are allowed partner work in the dojo.

The dummy is a Slam Man, I recently picked it up cheap off ebay. It's not great to be honest, It has a really hard plastic shell with a rubber surface covering the face and front torso, so if you want to practice knife hand strikes to the neck area or roundhouse kicks you're hitting hard plastic. I'll probably sell it on soon and spend the money on a Bob.

Cheers

Yes, that totally makes sense.

I see. One purpose of a dummy is that you can hit it hard without injuring youself.
