Heavy Bag Training: Husband & Wife Hands

In this video I run through 2 drills using a belt tied to a heavy bag.  The focus is using Motobu's "Husband & Wife Hands" principle during solo training.

In drill #1, I use a kake uke and reverse punch. The "limb" is seized and controlled with a hikite while executing a reverse punch.

In drill 2, a gedan berai, morote uke and empi uchi are used to strike the groin, clear a limb, access the head and finish with an elbow strike.

This drill is a modification of seienchin bunkai (opening movements) Iain Abernethy taught at a 2016 seminar in New Jersey. Hope you're staying safe and self-isolating. Keep training!

Cheers,

Andy

I like both of those! Will give them a go.

Great drills which are obviously ideal for this troubled time!

For those who’ve not seen that one, there’s a video clip on YouTube of if from that very event :-)

All the best,

Iain
