I’m very excited about this event! We will be in the studio here in the UK with a live two-way video screens to the USA! My uke and I are really excited to be using technology to share in-depth Chinto / Gankaku Bunkai, and bunkai and pad drills for Neiseishi / Nijushiho Bunkai.

I’m also a big fan of Donnie’s “Martial Arts Intelligence”! Having the knowhow to maintain a healthy body with optimum function is so important and I know of no one more able to effectively communicate this information to martial artists than Donnie. It will be great few days!

Anyhow, enough from me! Here is the official announcement.

All the best,

Iain

About Donnie Abel

Donnie Abel has over 30 years of experience in the martial arts, movement education, and physical therapy fields. Donnie's recent work includes a mobile app called Martial Arts Intelligence which houses all of his best techniques to strengthen the body, preparing it for the physical demands of martial arts. During the seminar Donnie will be covering mobility and flexibility using a prop most of you already have, the karate belt. Students will learn techniques they will use again and again long after the seminar. Donnie will be going over stretching, contract/relax methods, mobility with assistance, flow methods for the body, and how you can use props for releasing tension and increasing circulation.

About Iain Abernethy

Iain has been involved with martial arts since childhood and holds the rank of 7th Dan with the British Combat Association. Iain travels the world teaching seminars, creating videos for his app and Youtube channel, and talking about all things karate on his blog and podcast. In the words of a seminar participants “If you are interested in learning effective (no nonsense), practical Karate Kata Bunkai that includes chokes, strangles, locks, throws, groundwork etc that is taught in a friendly, safe, professional & very informative manner, then Iain's Seminar's are a must!" This year Iain will be covering Chinto and Gankaku bunkai, neiseishi/nijushihn bunkai and pad drills.

Saturday: Chinto / Gankaku Bunkai

Chinto kata is said to be a record of the methods of a shipwrecked Chinese sailor and martial artist of the same name. The kata was renamed “Gankaku” (crane on a rock) due to the distinctive one-legged posture repeated toward the end of the kata. Iain will break down the kata in full so we can explore the system it represents. This will include gripping, counter-gripping, throws, locks, takedowns, locks, cranks and more! We will also explore a variety of ways in which the methods of Chinto / Gankaku can be realistically drilled.

Sunday: Neiseishi / Nijushiho Bunkai and Pad-Drills

In the final session we will explore the bunkai and drills of Neiseishi / Nijushiho (“24 steps”). We will also look how we can drill the bunkai on the focus mitts! This is a very enjoyable way to train that allows us to practise the bunkai will full impact. The fusion of old methods and modern equipment is something you are sure to enjoy.
