Striking from a seated position (video)

This video show extracts of a session on striking from non-ideal positions. In this clip you can see some of the drills and exercises for striking from a seated position. This included being approached from the front, and from the side (as you would be in a car, bus, train, etc). The video also shows some examples of how we can use dialogue to create an opening for a strike in order to escape from danger.

It’s never simple, pretty or easy to generate power from these non-ideal positions … which is why they need to be practised. In competitive fights and dojo sparring and we generally start on our feet, facing our opponent and ready to engage. The same cannot be said for self-protection. We can be approached / attacked when seated or when using transport and hence this needs to be part of training.

Thanks for watching!

All the best,

Iain
