Having a growth mindset is something we should all strive for both in our martial arts of choice as well as in life.
During the Covid pandemic I did a lot of online training with my high school Martial Arts 11 class. At the end of the 2019/2020 school year I assigned a self reflection exercise. Students were asked to record themselves doing a kihon combination of their choice then analyze their performance.
This video features two of my martial arts 11 students from Charles P. Allen High School in Bedford, Nova Scotia, Canada. Both accurately a honestly identified their strengths and weaknesses in their form.
As a side note, Martial Arts 11 is a course I run as part of my teaching assignment at Charles P. Allen High School. It counts as students' Phys Ed credit. It's not extracurricular. It's an actual course students take every day for an entire semester.
