Pinan/Heian Godan Manji-Gamae Armbar Drill

Hello, everyone,

This week's Waza Wednesday takes a look at the manji-gamae/uke from the end of Pinan/Heian Godan, since it seems a bit topical lately. In this case, we look at it as a repeating armbar drill

A simple and clever flow drill! Thanks for posting.

All the best,

Iain

Thank you! It's a classic Ryukyu application, which originates (for us) in Naihanchi, and the fact that Pinan Godan gives us a perfectly fitting transition to the other side gives us a very efficient drill to rep out that technique. Of course, as a repetitive drill, I find that it works very well as a platform drill, from which you can launch into other techniques. It's simple enough to have the puncher alter their attack, or resist/counter the armbar, or have the person working the armbars simply switch to a new technique as they switch sides. It's a fun one :)
