The Kempo Creed

Something I read recently that I've been reflecting on:

"I come to you with only karate, empty hands. I have no weapons, but should I be forced to defend myself, my principles or my honor; should it be a matter of life or death, of right or wrong; then here are my weapons, karate, my empty hands."

—Ed Parker - March, 1957

What do we think?

Sounds like puffery. Like bragging. Mr. Parker taking himself a bit too seriously. After all, karate is just some punching and kicking, not philosophy.

I actually like this statement. although i question, is he talking about "Karate" or "Jujitsu" as it tends to get labelled with these days. Why do Kenpoists have to add a Label, rather than just calling it "Kenpo"
