Groundwork application to "downwards x-block"

This from Stefan Kesting of Grapplearts.com:

Is it just me that sees Pinan Godan / Chinto's downwards x-block in there? Interesting considering other groundwork present in Pinan Godan.

Good video that. I can see how you can extrapolate the principles inherit in the shoulder-locks we find in kata into such things. But I think we can be sure such ground work was never the intent of the kata motion … BUT the motions do exist to illustrate principles :-)

All the best,

Iain

Sure. It's a tertiary application, no doubt. But if you want to play with such things then it does augment other applications and princples in the kata, such as the shoulder lock on the floor after the "jump." They're both external rotation shoulder locks.

Excellent variation on Pinan Go, and he's using his hips into the kimura on the ground at the same time using his forearms. Endless posibilities in bunkai analysis/variations...Thanks for sharing...Regards...Gerald.

Absolutely. We have the same principles and physiological limitations at play. It’s a good find and I appreciate you sharing it here.

All the best,

Iain
