Basic Pinan Shodan Flow Drill

Iain Abernethy's picture

Seeing as this new website has good media functions, I’d better start making regular use of them! Please find below the first of many exclusive video clips that I intend to regularly add to this website. Some videos will be specially filmed for the website and others, like this one, will be footage that was not intended for the site, but nevertheless should be of interest.

In July of this year Nicolas Hofele (uke) and Georg Keim (camera) from Germany came to the UK to spend a week privately training with me. During the week they took a lot of video footage to help them recall all the things we covered and they kindly agreed to my posting some of it on this site.

This clip covers a drill using the opening three moves from Pinan Shodan / Heian Nidan combined with the shuto-ukes that follow later in the kata. Those who have studied the “The Pinan / Heian Series: The Complete Fighting System” DVDs will recognise the drill shown here as a variation and combination of the first and second drills shown on volume one. If you are not familiar with those drills, this video may be a little hard to follow. Hopefully, you’ll get the general idea though and find the video of interest.

NOTE: To watch the video, please click on the small “play” icon on the bottom left of the player. The video file will then start to connect (be patient!). Once the file has fully downloaded (progress can be seen on the bottom bar), the video will start to play.

I hope you enjoy the video and I’ll be back with more videos and drills soon!

All the best,

Iain
