Hi all. Just moved from Ireland to Midlands, England. I'm in Syston, LE7: between Leicester and Nottingham. I'm looking for Karate club that puts real emphasis on bunkai and real applications. Would prefer Shotokan for continuity-but no too bothered. Also interested in anything authentically self defence in the area. Thanks for any suggestions.
Hi. Andy Chapman is based in the Derby area.
He is Shotokan based and works realistic Bunkai.
He also holds a Dan grade in Geoff Thompsons Real Combat System so that's the genuine self defence elements covered.
I can say Andy is a great guy and if it's real pragmatic karate for REAL civilian self protection (as opposed to make believe real scenarios) you want then you will be hard pressed to find better.
On this forum he is Andy C
I hope that helps, good luck
Hi,
I have to recommend my instructor Mike Judds Applied Shotokan Karate club. Training is in Stoke-on-Trent.
Both of the above are good guys from good groups and I would second the recommendations already given.
As regards your preference for Shotokan: Andy comes from Wado where as Mike’s group are Shotokan. Mike’s group may therefore be the one best suited because of your own Shotokan background?
