Kihon Kata

Hi all

As the Karate which I practice is a modern creation, apart from tarditional Kata(mostly modified) we have set of modern kata.

These modern kata are design to be a bridge between traditional kata and shadow boxing(sparring).

I find these forms very helpful as introduction to teaching bunkai for new students, as simplicity of kihon kata easly demonstrate function of each technique within the form.

System which I practise is a offshot from Kyokushin and been influenced by Ashihara karate, below you can find application to the Kihon Kata Sono Ichi.

Kind regards

Les

It might be prudent, in terms of protection skills to train stomping the ankle or some other non lethal place instead of the head. Also, how do you work this from closer distances? Thank you for sharing.

Hi Marlon

Thank you for your comment, I agree with you that head stomping is dangerous, normally I make a point of this when I teach. As I did not created the form, while recording I wanted to stay true with it design and function.

This form is designed to work in that distance, those forms are not as versatile as traditional kata. There is only one application to each technique.

Kind regards

Les
